Fun Easter Garden Party Games and Activities for Everyone to Enjoy

Whether you’re looking for ways to keep the kids amused, seeking entertainment for the holiday season, or just in the mood for some good old fashioned family time; Easter is an especially great time of the year to gather up your friends and family and roll out some fun Easter games and activities.

Easter is the first official holiday break after the hustle and bustle of the new year. And, typically by the time the full Easter moon comes around, the kids are ready for time away from school to let their hair down, with an arsenal full of beans and full of energy! So, to counterattack all that excitement, our savvy team at Gifts & Keepsakes stock our pile of holiday ideas with fun Easter games and activities for the entire family to enjoy.

Gifts & Keepsakes Top 6 Fun Easter Games and Activities for Everyone

#1 The Traditional Easter Hunt with a Twist

The classic Easter egg hunt gets an exciting makeover with a twist! Instead of simply hiding eggs around the garden, create an interactive experience by including some themed clues or riddles that lead the kids to their hidden treasures.

Although hunts are typically reserved for Easter Sunday, this Easter scavenger hunt can be undertaken anytime during the festive season or holidays. Hide some Easter eggs, toys, or anything that interests them, around the house and yard to get them burning off all that excess energy. Whether you choose to relate the scavenger hunt to Easter or not, the clue cards can match your intention: make your own clue cards or find some online.

Perfect to play outdoors or in, continue these scavenger hunt-style games throughout the school break and give them the best holidays ever!

#2 Egg and Spoon Race

Get your balancing skills ready for an egg-citing race! Featuring an egg, a spoon, and a bunch of people battling for a prize (or bragging rights), the egg and spoon race is a fun Easter game that is great for players of all ages.

How to play the egg and spoon race

Set up each player with the same sized spoon (to ensure there are no advantages and no excuses…) and an egg. Instead of wasting real eggs, you can use chocolate Easter eggs, or imitation eggs. Or to really raise the stakes, and intensity, you could use the real thing – of course, you’d probably want to take the race track outside if you are using uncooked eggs and maybe those at the back of the pack have to clean up the mess!

On the “go” command, players must race to a designated finish line, while carefully balancing their egg atop the spoon. If the egg falls, they must go back to the start, restock and go again. The first person to cross the finish line with their egg on their spoon is declared the winner! To stick with the holiday theme, you could allocate an Easter prize for the winner, such as a plush toy or a giant chocolate Easter egg.

If you have a large field of players, you can run this fun Easter game as a relay race in teams and let the real battle begin!

#3 Bouncing Bunny Sack Race

The bouncing bunny sack race takes me back to the days of primary school sports carnivals, where it was known as the hessian sack race. Most children will be familiar with this old favourite. For our version however, we added a little twist to come up with a fun Easter game that everyone can enjoy.

How to play the bouncing bunny sack race

Fix a fluffy bunny tail to a burlap or hessian sack/bag (large hessian bags from the pet shops work perfect). Make sure that you have one for each participant. Each player must also wear a set of bunny ears – our Easter headbands and personalised Easter hats are ideal for this Easter activity. It’s always important to look the part and embrace the fun spirit of Easter too!

Standing inside a sack pulled up towards their waist, on go all players must bounce inside the sack towards the finish line. The first one, or first team in a relay, across the finish line wins.

To extend the time that this fun Easter game takes, have racers play off towards a final by setting them up against each other in legs or heats. The winner of each leg then progresses to the final.

This fun Easter game is generally for the kids, as it can be a little hard for anyone tall to participate. But not to worry! You can insist they give it a go anyway (and then sit back and enjoy the spectacle!) or you could create an alternative for the older and taller players. Simply place an exercise band around the calf muscles of these players. Instead of standing inside a sack, they must keep their feet and legs together and bounce without the sack to the finish line. To ensure correct dress for the occasion, just provide a few fluffy bunny tails on elastic to be worn around their waists too.

* Tip: see this easy picture tutorial and video on how to make yarn pom-poms for the bunny tails.

#4 Easter Hat Making and Parade

Get friends and family involved in creating their own Easter hats to wear as part of the Easter festivities and celebrations.

You might like to start from scratch by providing your own supplies such as feathers, pom-poms, glitter, stickers, colourful eggs and bunnies galore. Or you could opt for an easier and ready-to-go approach with a DIY Easter hat kit like those in our Easter hat range.

Once everyone’s creations are complete, organise a hat parade around your garden to showcase their fabulous hats. Make sure you bring your camera to capture their poses along the way. And don’t forget to award prizes for the most creative, colourful, and elaborate hats!

#5 Make Easter Bath Bombs

Albeit not necessarily a garden game, this activity is the perfect choice to ensure entertainment on those rainy days.

Take a break from the outdoors, and get your hands dirty by creating some sensory-pleasing Easter bath bombs to give out as part of your Easter gifts. The kids will love getting involved with this fun Easter activity as they can create so many different scents and colours. And the reward at the end – a beautiful, relaxing bath soak. Winning!

#6 Easter Baking

Baking is great activity to get the kids involved with, no matter the time of the year. But something about baking at Easter (hmmm, chocolate maybe?) just makes it more appealing to the littles.

As an alternative to those fun Easter games, why not get involved in some fun Easter baking? Baking is also a great wet weather plan too. From bunny-shaped cookies to colourful cupcakes decorated with Easter motifs, there are plenty of baking ideas to explore.

Encourage them to help bake some eggciting Easter desserts first, then participate in one of the games or activities listed above for the best lead-up to Easter celebrations they could ever ask for.
